Brian brings over 20 years of charitable gift planning, development and law background to the firm. Before affiliating his firm, Gift Planning Development, LLC with Constellation Advancement, Brian ran the gift planning programs for the University of Pennsylvania, Meridian Health Affiliated Foundations and Middlebury College. He also served Hamilton College and Clarkson University in various roles. The gift planning programs under Brian’s direction raised over $400 million and were a significant component in the University of Pennsylvania’s recently completed $4.2 billion campaign. Current clients include: Cazenovia College, Center for Disability Services, Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Le Moyne College and Mohawk Valley Community College. Prior to becoming a charitable gift planner, Brian was an attorney with two New Jersey law firms focusing his practice in trusts and estates.

A strategic thinker, Brian specializes in helping charities develop integrated, donor-centered charitable gift planning programs, particularly as part of their campaign infrastructure. Brian has developed both Planned Giving Essentials and Planned Giving in a Box® to help enhance existing gift planning programs and establish new ones. Over 75 nonprofits have used these programs to substantially increase their gift planning revenue.

Brian is a regular keynote speaker and has presented at conferences around the world for organizations such as the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning, the Council on the Advancement and Support of Education, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. He has trained tens of thousands of fundraisers, professional advisors, board members and philanthropists how to use a donor-centered approach to integrate philanthropic goals with tax, estate and financial planning.

Brian is a past board member of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners (CGP), the Gift Planning Council of New Jersey and the Planned Giving Council of Greater Philadelphia. He served on the editorial board of the Journal of Gift Planning, the flagship gift planning magazine published by CGP and is a past editorial board member for Planned Giving Mentor. In 2012 he released his first book, with co-author Robert Wahlers, The Philanthropic Planning Companion: The Fundraisers’ and Professional Advisors’ Guide to Charitable Gift Planning (Wiley), winner of the 2013 Skystone Partners Prize for Research in Philanthropy. Their next two books, Getting Started in Charitable Gift Planning and Getting Started in Charitable Gift Planning Resource Book (Charity Channel Press) were released in 2016. A leader in the gift planning field, Brian is regularly cited in numerous publications, including CASE Currents and the Chronicle of Philanthropy.
